Estes Park Outfitters Inc. offers three drop camps, two in a restricted access portion of Roosevelt National Forest and one in the Indian Peaks Wilderness Area.  These areas are considered remote and in most cases are only accessible by horse back or foot traffic only.  Each drop camp consists of 1 or 2 wall tents (16x20 and 16x14), containing cots/with mattress, tables, chairs, lights, cooking utensils, wood stoves, propane stoves, fire wood, drinking water, bear proof containers (for food), and a latrine.  Hunters need to bring personal gear, food and drinks.  There is a 100 lb weight restriction per person on personal gear not including food.  Transportation to camp is by horse drawn wagon or by pack horse depending on the camp.  Each camp will be checked, by radio every day during the hunt for game that needs to be packed out.   All hunts are 5 days in camp with transportation to and from camp the day before and the day after.  There will be a maximum of two to four hunters per season, per camp depending on which camp you choose.  The Wilderness Area camp is available for archery, muzzle and 1st rifle (weather permitting) and the other camps in Roosevelt National Forest are available for all archery and early rifle seasons .

 

New in 2007 Expanded hunting area which includes the archery only drop camp for 2 people bordering Indian Peaks Wilderness Area.  Situated just below tree line at 10,500 ft altitude.  Because of this altitude this camp is available only for Archery.
