Scott's Bull - 2nd rifle - 2007
Tim's Bull - 2nd rifle - 2007

This spectacular area turns golden brown and the warm Chinook winds typically keep conditions bearable throughout the rifle seasons. Expansive meadows and open parks located on our private property draw the elk in from Rocky Mountain National Park and allow for great hunting this time of year.

In addition to the regular seasons, there are three late seasons: two in December, and one in January.  However,  change is on the wind!  2008 may be the last year for the three late seasons.  These special seasons were added to help cope with an over abundance of elk in adjacent Rocky Mountain National Park and the local community of Estes Park.  Rocky Mountain National Park consists of 265,000 acres of un-hunted land since 1915.   This "plan" however did not affect these herds but herds established in surrounding areas were taking the brunt of the hunting.  Rocky Mountain National Park's approved, 20 year "Elk & Vegetation Management Plan", starting in 2008 will now push the park trophy status bulls into the surrounding huntable areas.

New for 2008, the CDOW is re-establishing Unit 20 as a trophy unit with only 25 rifle licenses/tags available for each gun season.  This means preferences points will be required, unlike in the past to draw a tag.  On the plus side however this means better opportunities at 300+ bulls and only 25 hunters in a 200 square mile area!

We specialize in trophy elk and mule deer hunts.  All private ranch rifle hunts are fully guided (one guide per two hunters) and are fair chase.  All game taken will be packed out and delivered to the local processor if desired.  Stay at our comfortable ranch house with all modern amenities, home cooked meals prepared and waiting for you and exclusive hunting of ranch property.  Hunting will range from 8000 to 10000 ft elevation.  Hunting camps are limited to a maximum of 6 hunters per season.  On the private ranch property we primarily use vehicles and hike into the adjacent Roosevelt National Forest.
